This weekend we went to the re-enactment of the Battle of Bull Run near Fresno, California. It is reported to be the largest Civil War re-enactment in the country. There are many interesting and educational displays. This one caught my eye.
It is a freight wagon built by Studebaker that had been converted to a chuck wagon. That is a horse or mule drawn mobile kitchen for you city folk. It was used for pack trips in the local high country by a local group. The owner decided that he was tired of fighting the beast down hill with the standard brake on the wheel rim. Being a man of some means (he owns considerable real estate from central California to Canada) and also a right nice fellow, he instructed his ranch mechanic to devise a solution for his problem.
Can you see the solution???
I'll post an up close photo of his ingenious solution shortly.
