I caught this yesterday and they are not the greatest photos but it happened quickly with a lot of movement and it was hard to stay on focus. Earlier I had noticed one of the grosbeaks had some yellow on the breast and was wondering why the difference. Later when this scene took place I believe I got the answer as it appears one is a juvenile (with the yellow breast) and is still mooching a tidbit off ole' mom. Does anyone know if this is correct? Would the younger bird be from last year as I don't believe they have mated up here yet this year? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Nice shots Mike... You have it figured right...the female juvenile Rose-breasted Grosbeak has a buffier breast... in some areas they will raise two broods, so I suspect this is a late bloomer from last year.
