I have the Dlite 4 kit and wanted to see about getting mobile, so in the UK I bought one of these...

and one of these...

Charged the battery and plumbed it all together. oh dear... soon as I switch on the Dlite 4 head the inverter beeps and the flash head switches off automatically! I'll try with a car battery later and see if that's any better, but for now its a no go.

thought I'd share my findings.

This inverter doesn't seem to like the Dlite 4 at all, I've tried it with a car battery in the car running and it still starts to beep making the Dlite shutdown. Looks like its going back.

The bi-voltage power supply in the D-Lite creates problems when used with inverters and portable battery packs.

As Rob points out its the bi-voltage power supply in the light.
About your only hope for portable power is either, find an inverter that supports bi-voltage, or get the portable power pack from Innovatronix. There is a sticky thread started by Rob on the sub-forum page.

The second is probably the more cost efficient option since it comes with warranty and technical support.

On the other hand, if your good with things electrical...

Thanks guys, I should have read up on it before I bought the kit.

I did a little searching and see that Lloyd Yoon managed to get an 350w pure sine wave inverter and 7ah battery working on the Dlite 4, they are however considerably older than my new units, is there a difference between the older Dlite 4 and the New one?

Not as far as being bi-voltage or not, both the old and new D-Lites are bi-voltage. But some inverters seem to work with the bi-voltage lights. Its kinda of hit or miss with the bi-voltage monolights it seems. I have used my Vagabond 2 and Vagabond Mini to power a 500BXRi which is also bi-voltage. Where I have read there becomes issues with most is when trying to power two bi-voltage monolights on one inverter.

I might try the 600w pure sinewave inverter and a higher ah battery, just seems that the inverter cant give enough juice for the strobe. Can always send it back if it still doesn't work.
