Im having a hard time learning what I need to with this program. Is LR more user friendly?

I found Aperture more intuitive than LR, but I haven't tried LR since version 2. It really comes down to personal preference, but I find Aperture 3 much more to my liking than LR, particularly for its speed and brushes.

There are a number of Aperture video tutorials on the Aperture web site at Apple. I think you'll find those most helpful. I downloaded all of them so that they were resident on my hard drive.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

Both programs have similar functionality and a similar user interface. They both offer a way for you to organize your pictures through folders (physical or logical), and they both allow you to develop your RAW images to your liking through the use of sliders or directly entering numeric values.

Most people prefer one program over the other, but if you are at the stage where you don't even know where to begin, LR will make no more sense to you than Aperture.

Aperture is pretty user friendly, just keep playing with it, you'll get the hang of it.

When you get the 60D, start with DPP. Fewer options, fewer tools, fewer decisions. When you get to the point where you start feeling that you want to do more, move up to Aperture, try LR or invest in a good pixel editor.

I agree with what everyone else said. One is not necessarily better than the other, they are just different with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Elie has a good point in trying out DPP first and when that holds you back then upgrade. Both programs have free trials to help you decide.

I've never used version 2, but Apple tends to make large improvements when it upgrades. See if the tools and interface of version 3 is any better.

You could also get a book which covers aperture inside and out (this is for v3)
http://www.amazon.com …MTBQJ&colid=16QCELO8CKBYS (external link)

and also check out this thread where everyone posts their adjustments to learn from
https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=684360

There are also online tutorials that would help. Changing to lightroom will not make it substantially easier. Both programs have similar tools so you need to learn them either way. Just keep practicing and post questions in the tread above :D

I have Aperture 3. I couldn't justify LR3 as this is only a hobby for me. I purchased off Mac Store for two reasons. I have a MacBook Pro and Hackintosh PC so I was able to install on two systems for the price of $80 only. I like the integration with the rest of the apple ecosystem. Places and faces is also fun but somewhat gimmicky features.

I used lynda.com to learn as much about aperture. They have video tutorial for both Aperture 2 and 3. I think it is very high yield.
