I just got the program and am playing around.

One thing ive noticed is you can save it 2 different ways

1) save as>save as jpeg

2) save for web & devices>save

it seems the 2nd option is more intricate with more options, but is the first option sufficient?

Thanks in advance!

Actually "Save As" gives you more options to choose from. Location, name, file types, and then some file types will have additional options as well.

You actually have 3 primary options under the file menu.

Save:
Just saves any changes made to the currently open file and does not change its name or format.

Save As:
Allows you many options to save to various file types, to a different file name, and a different location.

Save for web and devices:
Allows you to optimize a file for use on the web or mobile devices, It compresses an image reducing its file size to save on storage space, however that comes at the cost of image quality if you're not careful.

Save For web and devices can also be used for saving animated Gif files.

When in CS5 press the F1 key to open the CS5 Help, and then scroll down to Saving and Exporting Images and you will see all the options and multiple image file formats available.

The other thing to remember when using the save for web option is that it usually strips out the Exif data.

Only if that's how you have it configured..
You can select None, or what you want embedded. You can also have it embed the color profile, which I wish more people would do.
