Does anyone have ideas for a DIY snoot?
I use Genesis 200s.

With items like this available, are you sure you want to bother with a DIY snoot. This has the Elinchrom mount and the price is right.

Get thee to a craft store!

Velcro, black craft foam, and gaffer's tape (or black duct tape).

Get the velcro with the hooks one one side and the loops on the other.

Tape enough craft foam together to circle the ring on the strobe. Use the velcro to cinch it onto the ring, and then cinch the end of the snoot down to the required diameter the same way.

I've done this with a 160WS strobe, and nothing caught fire. YMMV.

Ahh the immediacy. Gotcha!

You don't have to worry about fire as long as you:

1. Make sure that none of the materials used for the snoot are close to or touching the flash tube.

2. Do not use the modeling lights.

If you do not have it, well then it will not help. I keep a roll of black cinefoil for just such times, when I need to shape a light. Of course, the first time I needed it, I did not have it. Ha, I bought a roll the very next day.

Got a pic of this so I can get an idea for what you mean?

Don't think the can will be wide enough for studio strobe. But this is great way to get snoot for speedlites. :)

Unfortunately, I don't have any shots of this getup, but, I might be able to cobble it back together when I get home in a few hours. If you're pressed for time, check out the below:

http://www.f1point0.com …ond-diy-adjustable-snoot/ (external link)

I did the same thing, except I had to overlap two pieces of foam on the long edge (using the tape) to get it to wrap around the light.

I also didn't bother with the white foam, I just used the black, which probably cost me some light.

The rest of the mechanics of how it hangs together are all there, though.

Hope that helps!

Got a cereal box or cardboard? In a pinch, a snoot is probably the easiest modifier to DIY. Post a pic of whatever you go with thou!!

Home hardware store, a set of Vent Duct reducers.

Heres a pic to get an idea.

IMAGE: https://www.horticulturesource.com/images/cache/large_thumbnail/736211.jpg

Measure the diameter of a eli speedring, then start with that and work your way down. You can use flat sheet cuters to get a rough speedring mount cutout, or get the first vent reducer larger then your speedring, and cut out 4 tabs on the reducer, bend them, and drill em, then attach to a speedring of your choice. If you don't wanna drill through any of your speedrings, get the first vent reducer smaller then the speedring, cut out of 4 tabs, bend them, and clip them to the speedring, but eli speedrings have little clearance i found, so its hard to do.

Some flat black paint outside and inside should do a dirty job, the metal is durable enough, though i don't recommend using the modelling light much.

The more reducers you use, the more control, i suggest attaching them with tape or just velcro tabs instead of gluing them so you can remove/adjust the spot a little.

-Hope it was in time.
