Hello, I go to use my thumb drive and it says that it needs to be formatted. I have data on there that I need to get off before either formatting or buying a new one. I have downloaded a file recovery program and it brought up my lost files but they want $50 to save them. Does anyone know of any free ways of getting the same thing? Thanks!

What OS are you using? Have you tried removing the drive, rebooting the system and adding the drive again?

If that still tells you that the drive is not formatted, you may have to format the drive. Just do a quick format and then run Recuva.....quick formatting the drive won't erase the drive, it will just rebuilt the File structure.

That brings up an interesting question -- is there a problem between Win 7 or Win7 64 and thumbnail drives, or is it just what I'm trying to use?

I'm running Win7 x64 and have never had a problem with it using USB devices, including thumb drives.

My name is Lonnie, but I answer to Thomas too.

I've never had an issue with Win 7 64 either.....but Vista used to do crazy things all the time.
