Firefighters in training

Shooting this turned out to be much more difficult than I thought.

First off, you can't really shoot a firefighter holding a hose while he/she is facing you. Even if you had a long enough lens to stay dry, you wouldn't see squat but the water.

Second, the intensity of the fire changes rapidly. Its hotter than hell, almost. Your exposure jumps drastically and the composition changes when you factor the fire as a subject.

Fun day though. I was a little heavy handed in LR to impress the muggles. Gives it a nice industrial look.

Awesome shots. Last one is certainly great, but I'm partial to #2, as well -- Chaos.
Is this a training rig for the refinery guys?

Yup. Industrial firefighting.

These are all budget lens shots. Either 28-135 kit lens or the 55-250. Shot on a 7D.

I have shot lots of emergency scenes for www.newjerseyfire.com and I must say you have done a good job. You are right the fire when it flares messes with the metering. You should try a scene when the LED/Strobes are flashing.
