The vignette in #1 and #4 is too overdone...and the WB in both seem a little cool.

Not sure I would have included the hat in 1 or 5.

The crop at the wrists in #3 is unfortunate and as you say, the pose in #1 is awkward and not very flattering to her...

#2 is the best for me.

Hmmm I will look into #3 and the wrists...it may just be a "miss" on my parts...
Very cloudy day and the clouds were moving quick so as you can imagine I went through various setting changes
Thanks for thr critique!

I think SOK nailed it. There's not really much to add. All of these pictures have issues other than 6. I think it turned out great although I think i slightly larger DOF would have been nice to get those last couple petals in focus.

Now here is a question, seeing the work above, do these shots or my quality of work merit compensation? I did not charge this couple due to it being my first engagement shoot (I made no promises) and they happen to be personal friends of mine.

What do you think?

Hello,

To answer your question above. Personally in that situation I would not charge them. If you didn't agree on a price before hand it may be a bit awkward to ask for it now, especially if they are friends of yours. I am still not charging for any of my shoots as I feel the experience is invaluable to me. However, depending on the number of 'keeper' images you have to give them...they may surprise you and give you some compensation without them asking.

I really like image #2, the composition is great and I personally like the overexposure.

#4 would have been better if he had moved forward a little so the light was even on their faces

#5 is really lovely. I will have to respectfully disagree with Shane about the petals. I think the petals on the left being out of focus makes the diamond stand out more.

Thank you samantha'! I am not looking for compensation for this shoot. As you stated the experience is worth more to me than a couple dollars at this point, I was just wondering if for future shoots if my work merits compensation or if I should keep working on it before really setting s dollar amont for my time.

Sorry, I read it wrong.

I think we are in similar situations at the moment. In my situation I have decided not to charge for shoots until I feel that my experience outweighs the value of of my gaining experience. I am self taught and feel that without any credentials in photography or technical background I want to be fully prepared for when I charge people money for a service.

From the look of your pictures you have a good eye but it is hard to comment on whether you should charge or not based on one photo shoot.

#2 is a great shot, love the composition and exposure.

Vignette in #1 is distracting and image seems a little on the cold side. It's also just not a very interesting scene IMO. Maybe get low (or up high!) or shoot from more interesting angles. I feel she is sort of awkwardly cradling him in the pose like you mentioned as well, might work better if he had his arm around her?
