They recommend the Black Widow for setups weighing 1-2kg (2.2-4.4lbs). 5+ lbs and they recommend the Pro. The 7D and 17-55mm weigh in at about 1.5kg so they're in the allowable range but I think the Black Widow is made more for things like Rebels or other lightweight systems.

Hi

I have a 450D and 17-55 which I use with the Spider Pro system. I don't use the belt or pad just the plate and pin which you can buy as stand alone. It threads on belt like the black widow. I just use a normal leather belt but I am thinking abot putting it an a camera belt like a Lowepro. I admit the spider pro is not as small and neat on the camera body but I really like it. I thought about the Black Widow but the weight limit put me off. With a flash, tripod plate other bits you may add you are near the limit. I also wanted to future proof myself and I did not see that the price difference was worth not going the extra.

Hope this helps

I use the Spider Pro system as well. I have a Canon T1i with 18-55 lens and a 55-250 lens.

Very pleased with how the belt handles the weight and the camera is securely locked in. I hate straps around my neck and this makes my hikes so much more comfortable.

I would recommend the Spider Pro for a 7D as it is heavier. Also the belt with it is a 3 point release system so you don't have to worry about the belt coming off.

how about if running a 5DMK2 + grip + 70-200M L 2.8 IS? I've been running this combo with the BR and it works, but very tiresome on the shoulders.

any idea?

i have this camera setup and really like the SpiderPro system. instead of the heavy weight on the shoulders, it's now on the hip / waste area which to me is much more bearable. i would definately recommend this holster system

I wear a 5D and 70-200 2.8 on my hip with a Spider Pro (without grip) and couldn't be happier. I have a herniated disc and my back no longer troubles me when I shoot.

Another Spider holster user here. This saved my back. I also have a herniated disc and this allows the weight of my gear to be carried by my hips and legs instead of my shoulder back back. Sometimes, I would use my Black Rapid strap as a tether together with my Spider holster. I usually prefer to to put the holster in front of my right hip, instead of the right side of my hip. This allows me to swing my arms when walking without hitting my camera with my right hand.
