Been out of the loop for a while regarding strobist stuff. Are Yonguo Rf-602 still the cheap triggers of choice?

I'd say so. The Cactus V5s give them a run for their money and are only a few bucks more. The RF-603s are out but haven't been getting the greatest reviews. I'd wait for the second production on these before buying.

I have bought some flash stands from a seller in HK and he has sent me a leaflet about this:
http://flashraw.com …features-500-meter-range/ (external link)

It says it will be out soon. Perhaps it would be worth waiting if you have TTL flashes and need higher speed syncs from RF-602.

I have also tested my new RF-602s with my old Minolta flashes (118x, 132x, 280px) yesterday and they work nice, except I had to cover the P pin on the 280px. They worked 100% on both my 350D and my Minolta XE-5. There are other cheaper triggers like PT-04TM (25usd trigger and 2 receivers) but I doubt they will work as nice as 602. I guess you have to choose only between 602 & CTR-301p at this price range (50usd for trigger and 2 receivers). RF-603s don't offer much more other than PC sync and 1/250 I believe.

If the Cactus v5 are as good, I think I will go with those. I also have an old speedotron system that syncs at 70V, and the RF602 only handle 12V. The Cactus can handle 300V, so I could get rid of my sync cable for the speedotron, too. I have actually pulled my camera off the table twice tripping on that damned cable! I just wish I could get the Cactus from someone here in North America. I hate ordering from overseas.

I ordered mine @ Gadget infinity, took them 10days to deliver, fast enough for me.

It would seem that Mpex now stocks them, and at basically the same price as Gadget Infinity once you account for shipping.

Nice, thanks. Looks like about $71 with cheap shipping at Mpex.

Damn, I was hoping the Cactus V5 had come down in price to be competitive to the RF-602.. Still about twice as much. :(

Cactus V5's are more comparable to RF-603's.

Some recent news of Cactus V5's having problems with Nikon flashes. Just saw it on GadgetInfinity. They have a fix though.

i've been using my rf's indoors/outdoors for a while now and never had a single problem with them. I even have spare once since they are so cheap. IMO there is no reason to spend more money for triggers unless you want ttl.

Well like I said, I do also have a studio unit that syncs at 70V, so that might be my reason.

Sorry I missed that post. Then you will have to go with v5. I did not know there is that much difference in voltage or whatever the V stands for.
