fwiw, i have found this lens to be remarkably free from flare. as a result the hood no longer gets used (or even put in the bag).

No, I have used a split prism from katz eye before. They are okay, but still hard to nail precise focus with them. Plus the split prism is only in the center and I prefer the ee-s screen for the 5d as you can compose your shot then focus, rather than focus and recompose. Overall, I'd say don't waste your money on the katz eye.

F-stop is manual.

I have been using live view and it's great on focus provided that your subject is still, unlike mine!

My EG-S screen comes in next week and I hope this improves focus.

i don't think it's a matter of that particular screen per se.

one thing nearly everyone will agree on is that the oem screen is inadequate for apertures wider than about f/2.8, but once you get some kind of "faster" screen in, it's all up to the guy behind the camera.

the thing about MF is that it absolutely can be learned and a level of proficiency can be gained such that no AF system on the planet can compare.

it may take decades and tens of thousands of shots, but every one gets a little tiny bit easier.

Just ordered a de-clicked version from ebay. I'll be using it for photos and video on my 600D, the sharpness etc due to the crop factor should be superb. Very excited to get such a great quality lens. I've been reading reviews and it's being put up against 35L and Zeisses and not coming out too bad.

it will have auto focus when samyang 35 f1.4 put on 7D or 5D II ?

It's completely manual. The camera body is of no difference. The lens itself does not communicate to the camera.
