latukka, nice tests! The CAs (Chromatic Aberrations) you point out are always present on these large aperture primes. Some are worse than others, but in my inexpert opinion, this one is better than most.

anyone been able to successfully get an AF chip calibrated correctly.
turning the lens clockwise (if you were facing the front of the lens) back focuses
turning counter clockwise is pretty close but still back focuses.

either way it looks like counter clockwise rotation is the only rotation i can use that will give me proper results unless i am using live view.

i tried to MA with the camera and its just wierd, its like the system is fighting it and doesnt want to MA properly.

i have not tried the MAY in the lens because its a pretty tedious process to do it.

still love the lens though!

ca on a FF is almost nonexistent (5D MKII)
but use it on a crop camera and ca is rather noticeable (50D)
but the lens was also built for a FF camera so i would expect some differences when on a crop.

How much is too much is pretty subjective. CA doesn't bother me much, personally, but you can see green fringing around the dog's right leg and over the top of his head in the 5DII picture 4 posts above this one.

1:1 Something blue/green and red glow. What is this? This seems to happen when shooting white sharp objects in bright lighting.

Great shots everyone :)

Yeah I feel I have mine dialled in pretty good and the counter clockwise is really the way to go, the the chip comes in handy for getting me in the ballpark quickly, sometimes I'll make further adjustments when the DOF is too thin or when I recompose, the EG-S screen comes in so handy then.

Few recent shots:

Noodlz, great shots!

Ever since my first RAW-capable camera (a Powershot S50), I decided that I'd never shoot a JPEG again. Every once in a while I'll switch to RAW+JPEG just for a laugh, and it's really incredible how crappy JPEGS look. I blame Ken Rockwell for the continued acceptance of JPEG quality!

Thanks! Hehe yes I always kick myself when it happens, I was doing some timelapse the previous night and forgot to change it back, thankfully resizing helps a little but there's still a lot of detail lost and you can definitely see it in the above images!

Also received the Dandelions - AF confirm chip (Programmable) for Canon EOS Camera from Tago Tech (http://store.tagotech.com …_info.php?products_id=139 (external link)). It was a bit tricky getting the chip on the lense, I used some regular tape :D. After getting it on I had to read the programming manual to program the chip. Programmed it to read f/1.4 and 35mm to start with. Found that the focusing confirmation was totally out of wack so I set the focus adjustment forward from the value of 9 to about 6 and now it nails pretty much perfectly. Only catch is it seems to be spot on only when turning the focus ring left. Going right the focus is a bit off. Funny.. but still happy to have some sort of reliable focus confirm, just need to work with the idiosyncrasies of this lense! I'll have to see how I go in the field proper with the chip but shooting around the house it's looking good. Anyway heres a shot of the quick and dirty focus chip on the lense!

I'm having trouble fitting my chip to the lens. With my chip there came two black plastic back supports. Did you use one of those? It looks like I should not need those if I glue the chip to flat inner metal circle. However it didn't get contact to the camera like that. Did you attach the chip just flat to the inner ring or on top of the outer ring?

Hey latukka, I pretty much attached it as seen in the above image(the inner metal circle), surprisingly I only had to use one strip of double sided adhesive tape from 3M, you can find them for cheap on ebay. I didn't use any plastic back supports. Its a bit of trial and error but the position guide does help greatly to get the chip in the right spot, as long as the position is good I've found you dont need to raise the height of the chip much at all as only 1 layer of the double adhesive did it for me :)

Hi everyone!

Is the hood included in the box? Mine didn't come with it??

Edit: The lens is going back for an exchange as it's back focusing!

I'm so sad........
