Ride5000, how do get that milky smooth look on your photos? I really really like it, it is kind of contrasty but at the same time very smooth and clean looking. Is it the camera or the lens or do you do something special when you're editing?

Btw I never bother to login to say this, but I always love to see new photos from you. They are always top notch!

yes.

;)

honestly, i think it's all three factors...

the 5dc is legendary for its sensor output. weak AA filter, freedom from banding/pattern noise, etc. there is just something about the way it captures photons and i'm hardly the first person to think so.

the lens is also a big contributor. i would say that 99.99% of my shots with this samyang have been wide open. the bokeh is gorgeous imo. that's going to add a LOT to that smoothness, and the narrow dof makes what IS in focus appear that much sharper.

as far as editing, i do all my post work in lightroom. just upgraded to version 5 last week, but i haven't seen a whole lot of difference vis a vis 4.x. i find the DPP raw conversion to be "better" in some cases but not enough to justify how much less useful it is in my workflow, so i stick with LR. i play with each photo one by one, i don't use boilerplate presets. i find each one demands different treatment to really pop, and i kind of just play with different options until one rises to the top (ie, try black and white, try high contrast, try low key, etc).

Btw I never bother to login to say this, but I always love to see new photos from you. They are always top notch!

thank you very much, sir!

Well, my new lens will be here tomorrow! Bought it from BHPhoto for $379.00. Had to grab it for that price.

I bought this lens primarily for a very sharp landscape lens, but with the sharpness at F1.4, I am sure to use it for many other purposes.

Can't wait to try it out!

Many pictures sure to follow.

Just received my lens this evening. I can't believe the quality you get for $379! I haven't tested it yet to see if I have a good copy, but with my first image, I can see that I'll be very pleased after testing.

Here's my first shot, an obligatory dog photo. Shot at f1.4 with bad light.
