A lot of people buy the nikon mount lens, then get a chipped adapter for a cannon. I know it is one extra part and there may or may not be some looseness, but that is what many do.

I also know there are programmable chips out there for Canon, I am not familiar with where to get them though since I shoot with a Nikon.

this photo shot with nikon D700 not from canon

I'm aware of this - I've followed this forum for years as it has a great community with many active users. I only post these here to help people see the optical quality of this lens. I understand it's not a Canon camera but it displays the quality and could compare with similar Canon full frame models. I can stop posting samples here if this is an issue.

I have no pull here, but I do find your intentions to be honorable and can totally agree with you that this is a lens sample forum and has nothing to do with body specifics. The mods may see things differently, but I don't mind in the slightest. I also agree that this is a great group of folks here, whereas I find most of the Nikon boards to be...lacking... the warmth and camaraderie that is present here.

Over the weekend my dad and I went on a motorcycle camping trip up in Guanella Pass, just west of the gold town of Georgetown. We stayed up late to see if we could get some shots of the night sky. This was really my first time trying wide field astrophotography (well, wide considering 35mm).

After making camp, we hopped on our bikes and rode up to the pass. This pass is at 11,669 ft elevation. At first I thought we were skunked because the skies were very overcast. Waiting a few hours paid off, although there were still clouds.

Here's my first shot. You can see the clouds being lit from Denver's city lights, even though Denver is pretty far away.

And here is a picture looking up through the trees at camp. The trees were lit slightly by a small lantern we had.

I am real excited they turned out and am now putting some lenses on ebay to pay for a 14mm F2.8 Samyang to get some REAL wide field astrophotos.

Over the weekend..

Those are amazing! I actually just attempted this last night. It was a beautiful cloudless night after several days of rain. Unfortunately light pollution in my area is really bad. So this is all I can come up with:

You can get rid of a lot of that light pollution by resetting your black point My sky shots were much brighter before I reset the black point. This makes the milkyway stand that much more out from the background.

Hey thanks for the suggestion. If I understand you right, that means I have to point the camera to a darker part of the sky. Problem is I'm just shooting from the yard of a house where there are light sources all around :(

No, you reset the black point in post. I am using Capture NX2 because I have a Nikon, but I think Photoshop's, ACR has the same feature. It usually has to do with white balance and has a "dropper" that you pull over and click on the blackest (or what should be blackest) part of the sky in your shot. This tool then resets your blacks and makes the bright sky shot black and your stars/ Milky Way stands out much more.
