Im afraid the light bounced off the reflector will be harsh and make the image... ugly.. and idk where to place it.. if the subject is between me and the sun, should the reflector be infront of me and the subject? or the side? or what? im confused.. lol im mostly afraid of harsh light bounced back onto the subject and messing up the shot.
Also, what size reflector is good? and just white? ive seen ones called translucent or diffuser which one do i get?!

Any insight and help? Thnx.

Don't be afraid to use a reflector with similar light,it's easy.
Generally you put it on your right or on your left (near the model).
You can obtain a soft light based on the distance between the reflectors and the subjects and even depending partially on the color of the reflector.

If you want a cheap way to test, try out some 2' white foam core boards as a starting point. You can get them at the dollar store. Because your reflector will be near your subject, it becomes an effectively very large light source. Lighting is usually pretty nice from a reflector.

I don't have very many pictures online that I used a reflector for, but I did use a gold one for this, to warm up the blue light from the blue walls. It bounced the window light behind the baby to light her up.

Take the reflector and move it around the subject at different angles. Observation is your friend ..You'll soon see the difference.

Also, silver reflectors are harsher than matte white reflectors. This is why I have a couple. Each type of reflector to suit the subject.

You could get a cheap 5-1 reflector off of amazon, I have one and use it for plants and flowers I think I have a 33" round one, it has a diffusion, white, silver, black, and gold it comes in handy and I have never found it too harsh

^^^^^ Thats what I was going to suggest as well. 5-in-1's are the way to go as they offer all options in one unit.
