Next month I'll be shooting wedding for a friend and im trying to figure some things out using speedlites. And of course I ran in to some problems with YN rf triggering. I want to have one speedlite attached to the camera in the hot shoe for fill and be able to trigger the other flash using the RF trigger. whats the best way to set this up?? i have tried with pc cable and im noticing decreased sync speed, lose cable and no way to attach the trigger anywhere. now im thinking maybe YN triggers is not such a good idea for this. any advise/hints on this? thanks guys in advance:cool:

Pocketwizard MiniTT1 transmitter. The pocketwizard slides onto the hot shoe of your camera and then your on-camera flash on top of that.

Add a Pocketwizard Plus 2 to the off camera flash.

Just to be clear........have you tried setting your off camera flash as a slave and having the on camera(MASTER) fire it?

This works good only in a small room. i want to be consistent with it and be able to trigger the second flash from the distance. Ill be using this outdoors as well.

Unless the 602's can do something I'm not aware of, ain't gonna happen with them. I don't think they come with a cord you can plug into the on camera flash that can remote trigger the OCF via signal.

i had my own pc sync cord laying around. this is what i came up with but like i said, doing it this way the sync speed with the flash dropped to like 1/125 on my 5d mk2. this is too low for my use outdoors. i need max sync speed at 1/200 but this way using the pc cable i get black bar at 1/160 on every fifth shot i take and this forces me to drop my shutter to 1/125.

Does it sync at 1/200 if you keep the tx's button half pressed (green light lit)?

yep, TX pressed half way down triggers the green light on RX and this is normal. but it does this at no matter what shutter speed im using or even with camera on/off. is this what you are asking? im confused here...

Okay, I have this crazy idea that perhaps the reason people are reporting slow sync speeds with the 602s is that the receiver has an inherent off->green/red delay.

So when mounted to the shoe:
Camera not busy: TX off, RX off
Half press shutter: TX green, RX off->green (slow)
Press shutter: TX red, RX green->red (instant)
Sync speed: 1/200

Not mounted to the shoe:
No trigger [camera idle or half press shutter]: TX off, RX off
Triggered [full press shutter]: TX red, RX off->red (slow)
Sync speed: 1/125

If you instead, press the TX button halfway, the RX should already be in receiving mode and it may sync at 1/200 instead of 1/125.

Or you can get a flash bracket and put the 580EXII on it (with a rf-602 receiver or sync) and the rf-602 tx on the hot shoe.

could be, ill do more testing once i get home tonight.
