his eyes say he's bored his mouth says someones just out of the frame holding his wife hostage to get him to smile... makes for a weirdo expression.. maybe he is a weirdo i dunno? looking good is his job not yours. some people just have a look too them no matter what. personally i look like i just did a multi year stretch in a state pen.... i don't expect a photographer to make me look like the pastor's son. i like the photo personally and i think its fine and he's just self conscious. the only people that will ever notice any of the things you pointed out are you, him, and picky professional photogs.

Nothing to see here....

i think he did good too but disagree that it's not the photographers job to make you look good...the times i have been happiest with my work was when i was able to get someone who didn't initially want to be there...felt self conscious and unattractive to actually loosen up and feel good about their self and ecstatic by how good they looked in the images...that's what it's about right there. :)

I kind of like the pose and the slightly lower angle. Rather than reinventing a perfectly good wheel, I would just tweak the clothing details and take the hand that is showing and extend it straight out to rest on the ledge instead of on his hip. Once I got a decent expression out of him, then I'd play around with some other angles and poses, but I think the location and pose and clothing CHOICE is great. Just tweak it a bit.

This. I was going to make this comment independently when I saw Sue's post. Repositioning the hand to rest on the wall and perhaps a slight body tilt in that direction, with head and eyes back at the camera changes the whole shot from:

"I'm a little teapot"

to

"Welcome to MY Denver"
