Hamburg Germany. St Micheals Church, looking nearly straight up.

Got to love the ISO capability of the cameras these days.

5DMkII
ISO 3200
1/160
f/6.3
Tamron 19-35 at 19mm

Any thoughts?

Rad

(PS - initial processing done on a non color/luminosity controlled laptop. Color and luminosity might be wildly off!)

Difficult shot with the bright windows and the interior in comparative darkness. Yes the 5D2 has good low noise at high ISO capabilities - I use that all the time... :)
If you shot RAW you might (in ARC) "paint" down the exposure on the windows a bit - or lower the exposure over all and "paint up" the organ.

I agree with the comments above, but I would like to see the bottom of the arc at the bottom of the frame.

Actually, I burned in the window and surrounding areas. I was taken by the look of the light flowing into the space and that is the feature that I wanted to enhance. Flowing, awash in white light. I wanted something that would not be at all out of place in the last 5 minutes of 2001:A Space Odyssey. However, I do see what you mean by bringing up the organ. This is a follow up where I did just that, increased the organs overall brightness, and, to a degree, saturation and local contrast.

I see what you are saying about the arc at the bottom of the frame. I don't know exactly what I was thinking, but I know there was nothing down there but an darkened alcove, which would not contribute to the shot, so, I think that I was just trying to have that arc just kiss the frame, as well as the arc on top. But, yes, in retrospect, I wish I had just another mm of focal length on the wide end on the lens.

Eww! Yup, that was my first thought when I read your comment - Eww! I don't really care for look of an HDR shot. BUT - I have been surprised before, and I will be the first to admit if I am wrong. However, I only have my laptop with PS Elements 2.0. No access to any other processing software, so here is an "Out of Camera" version. If you (or anyone else) wants to run it through a tone mapper, please, have at it.

If anyone does try HDRing the shot, please post your results, and I hope that I end up pleasantly surprised.

Rad

..... I don't really care for look of an HDR shot. .....

HDR has more or less become equivalent with "overly processed and colour saturated" as a result of too much tone mapping (whatever that may mean: "tone mapping..." :) ). The end result is unnatural looking most of the time if not ugly....

But for shots like this with a wide dynamic range - which cannot be captured in the camera in one shot - merged bracketed exposures can be a very good solution to the problem. However... you got to have your tripod ready and make sure that there is no change in lighting (clouds creeping in front of the sun... :) ) while taking the bracketed shots.

I know... my rant against "HDR" will not go unpunished.... :)
