I have a Canon Digital Powershot A720 IS and automatic flash is not working. I have received an estimate for £60 from authorised camera repair service
Is it worth my while to spend this money (camera shop said repair costs prohibitive suggested purchase new one) rather than replace - advice/experience please

The A720 is a nice camera manual controls with an optical finder AA batteries, but the repair cost is 1/2 way to a new camera, If you can do without manual the A1200 has the optical finder with AA's and you can almost get it for the repair cost. If you need manual and optical finder you are into a G series at 4X the cost(a much better camera). I would keep the 720 and use it without flash when you want to get creative and get a new A1200. Unless money is not an issue then go for a G12 or S95

Thanks for that but I am of a generation that is reluctant to throw away something that still looks like new. I already have another camera but tended to use that one more often, as carrying it with me always easier sizewise. Does a newer model really have more going for it than this one repaired -I'm still debating as it would be useful to another family member like you say it is usable without automatic flash too
