I've dabbled in infrared photography with thread-in filters for years now, but always wanted a converted camera. Well, The Wife bundled up my old XTi and sent it off to LifePixel
for a 720nm conversion, taking advantage of the steep discounts they're offering right now. The little beauty came back a few days ago:
Frustratingly, I've been incredibly busy and the weather's been crappy, so I haven't had much opportunity to play with it yet. What I have managed, however, impresses me. A lot. Here's a self-portrait test done under murky skies that would've resulted in a dull, low-contrast image had I tried it with my previous filter setup. Instead of a wide-open, 30 second exposure, I used f/8.0, ISO 400, shutter speed 1/30. Under gloomy skies. Foliage is crisp white, with no visible light leakage. I'm a believer!
