Shouldn't be a problem. I flew two days ago with my stuff, no problems.

I usually pack my tripod in my checked-on luggage. I have had problems with trying to carry a monopod on an Alaska Airlines flight between Los Angeles and Anchorage because security said it was a "weapon-like" object. However, I saw several people carrying monopods on the flight back to L.A. from Anchorage. Asking the TSA agent, I was told, "Folks carry those aboard all the time - no problem!"

After something like three airline trips where I took my tripod and didn't use it, I quit taking it along. With several IS lenses, I discovered I really didn't need it and it was extra weight in my luggage.

I pack the tripod in checked baggage. Can't be sure someone along the way won't decide your tripod is a potential threat. The only trip I haven't used mine on was the one where I left it in the room instead of taking it along for a night sightseeing. Fortunately, an IS lens and bracing against my wife let me get the shot.

we put tripods in checked luggage without problem. Put TSA locks on the bag so if TSA does decide to take a look....they can relock the bag.

The problem with that approach is that it is not the airline's decision whether or not you can pack a tripod in your carryon luggage. TSA has the final word, and their choices/decisions vary a lot between airports. To be safe, you should put it in your checked bags.

Rarely a problem but they CAN ask you to check your baggage into Luggage. Believe it or not they can possible consider the tripod a potential weapon in carry on luggage or a place to store or transport drugs becaues of the hallow tubes.
