RPCrowe Cream of the Crop More info | I usually pack my tripod in my checked-on luggage. I have had problems with trying to carry a monopod on an Alaska Airlines flight between Los Angeles and Anchorage because security said it was a "weapon-like" object. However, I saw several people carrying monopods on the flight back to L.A. from Anchorage. Asking the TSA agent, I was told, "Folks carry those aboard all the time - no problem!" With several IS lenses, I discovered I really didn't need it and it was extra weight in my luggage. John

Can't be sure someone along the way won't decide your tripod is a potential threat. The only trip I haven't used mine on was the one where I left it in the room instead of taking it along for a night sightseeing. Fortunately, an IS lens and bracing against my wife let me get the shot. Jon

TSA has the final word, and their choices/decisions vary a lot between airports. To be safe, you should put it in your checked bags. EOS 5D Mark III

Believe it or not they can possible consider the tripod a potential weapon in carry on luggage or a place to store or transport drugs becaues of the hallow tubes.
