Okay, it's just for my sister. She wanted me to get some portraits of her boys for their daddy Father's Day gifts. I had some trouble trying to keep 2 little boys posed, but over all I'm fairly happy with the outcome.

Are we critiquing? If so, these are nice -- color is good, poses and exposures are nice.

Watch your backgrounds -- several photos feature trees growing out of the subjects head!

Very Nice... Great series! 4 & 5 need a pinch of color correction and sharpness. It's a bit soft. I could barely see the little boys eyes.

other than that, excellent!

Thanks. I know they could use a few improvements, but over all I'm pretty happy. I did try correcting the color on those that were mentioned, but I still couldn't get what I wanted, plus I'm working on an uncalibrated monitor so I wasn't sure how bad it was.

I also noticed that they actually appear sharper on here than they did in LR3. Has any one noticed this happening? It seems like all my photos are a little soft or noisy when I look at them in LR3.

flickr does give photos a bit of sharpening.
you did great on your first job. I like them.
another thing to keep in mind is when you're surrounded by trees, your subjests will have greenish tint to them. fill light would help also on the shadows on their faces.
my fav is #1. if you can, bump the exposure maybe +0.23 (or close to clipping the white shirt) and maybe a bit of fill light then add contrast

if you have uncalibrated monitor this will help. try doing this in LR, click J it will show you the clippings. red for highlight and blue for shadows.

I fixed the green cast and thought I had the exposure right, but after sending my 5 test photos to WHCC, I found out my screen was too bright. After making some monitor corrections, and then exposure corrections, I sent in the order of the photos my sister is buying. Even though it's just for my sister, it still feels good to have someone buying some photos.

I have a color-calibrated monitor; on mine, the color balance is still off in most. I like #1, except that the tilt makes it look like he's sliding down a hill. The composition is a bit static in most of them too

The color is still off because the only ones posted are from before I corrected them.

Yeah, I'm still having a little trouble figuring out how to compose my shots. I recently did some practice portraits of my family, and I didn't take into account what I would lose when I cropped to 8x10. This time I opened it up a little much just to make sure I didn't have to crop off something I wanted.

Great set! Lovely boys! Next time maybe try to joke with them while shooting so you capture more natural smiles.

I did try that some, but we were out in the woods with a creek right next to us. It was all I could do just to try to get them out of the creek and get them to look at me long enough to snap a few shots. I guess I'll have to keep that in mind next time I'm picking a location (Boys + Water + Mud = Difficult) I'm not really complaining. We had a good time. It just wasn't the ideal spot for that age kids.
