I am in Creative mode and the lower left corner of the LCD screen, on my 60D, is blank.

What conditions must be set for WB, Flash Exp and Mode to appear in that space on the LCD screen?

Is there a default menu setting that needs to be reset? I'm wondering if maybe, during my explorations, I changed the default and that's what prevents this information from displaying?

If you are referring to the "CA" ("creative auto") mode, which is my guess, since you said "I am in Creative mode" rather than "I am in ONE OF the creative modes"...then your camera is working as it should. I don't have a 60D, but I have a 7D which I would guess has the same "CA" mode - and that mode is an auto mode, so the info you are looking for can't show since the camera doesn't have that info - and won't until the instant you press the shutter button....(although you should see AWB on the top of the box for white balance - you just can't change it -nor can you change your metering from "evaluative" in "CA" mode).

Also, just so you know - the scale you refer to as "flash exposure" - AKA "flash compensation" (also not controllable in "CA" or "Green Box" mode) is only going to let you change your flash compensation when you press the corresponding button (but not in "CA" or "green box" mode). It will then revert to the center or wherever your exposure compensation is set. It only shows you the flash compensation when you set it or if you press the button to access it. As soon as you touch the shutter button it will show your exposure comp, not your FLASH compensation. It is just a shortcut to set your flash comp., not a source of constant info regarding that setting.

As for the top LCD showing what mode you are in - I have never seen that on any EOS camera...and it would make no sense to have it there. You would need to look at the top of the camera, so it is just easier to look at the dial on the left to see what mode you are in (or see the shooting info on the main LCD on the camera's rear by pressing the "info" button a couple of times (depending on how you have the "info" button set).

Hope this helps. If you truly are in a "creative mode" - and not in "CA", and that information is not showing, I would call Canon tech support and see if you have a real problem...(which I tend to doubt).

Best of luck,
D.

Wow, what a nice picture! You must have a really great camera!

Ok, I can make screen shots on my computer but how do I make a picture of the LCD on my camera?

Yes, thanks; took the opportunity to add to it while I was there.

Take a picture with your other camera.
You aren't trying to convince us gear geeks that you have only one, are you? ;)

But try Tv mode first. Things disappear in CA mode and then further south of that.

Hmmm, both LCD screens have four corners... I've ID'd only one, how can I be more specific :p

and which lcd sceen?

Sorry, the LCD Panel. As far as I can tell, it's the only LCD that displays this information in that location.

Sorry, I actually did mean ONE of the creative modes; as apposed to one of the automatic modes

As for the top LCD

Which I realize now is ID'd as the LCD Panel
as apposed to the LCD Monitor.

Sounds logical to me but check out the attached image.

In David Busch's book EOS 60D Guide to Digital Photography he states that this information should display in the area shown in the attached image. He doesn't, specifically say, when this information would display; as in what mode, but he says it does display and the attached image shows that information displaying in the "lower left corner".

I would call Canon tech support and see if you have a real problem...(which I tend to doubt).

Maybe I am going to have to do that, but I thought I'd be able to avoid that by checking here first.

Best of luck,

Thank-you and for the time you've taken to help me sort this out.

Aha, now I understand. For these icons to show up you must set their corresponding values to something else than zero.
B/W shows only when using the Monochrome picture style.
The flash +/- only when flash exposure compensation has been set different from zero.
And WB +/- means that you have set white balance compensation for at least one color pair.

 Actually I gave my Canon PowerShot to a friend, and I actually do have only one ;) But I realized that I have a manual; the book I referred to is digital so I can't scan it. But I did scan the Panel in the manual and attached it to one of the posts in this thread.

But try Tv mode first. Things disappear in CA mode and then further south of that.

Actually I've cycled through all the modes and that information doesn't display in any of them.

No, but you did read my reply above now, did you? It doesn't display because you haven't set anything.

BINGO! bw! Mystery solved.
Now I can move on, and learn more ... Thanks!

I'm surprised that the LCD panel on the 60D is so much different than the one on the 7D

Anyway, glad you got it straightened out...I'd have been very surprised if the camera were not showing info as it should. Things go wrong with anything made by humans, but when it comes to displaying info on an LCD....we've been able to buy LCD watches with a hundred functions for 30 years - this is something that I'd not expect to fail.

Peace,
D.

I was inclined to feel that same, that's why I was pretty sure it was a "user" issue ;)
