I've tried changing the pixel dim to 80x80 and the size to some miniscule amount but I always seem to come up with an image that is too large. What is the secret to creating a simple avatar that doesn't always come out too large? Is there a standard size? or ppi setting. I have always had this problem with avatars:mad:

Welcome to POTN, Michael. What software are you using?

If you post a larger version of the image in this thread (or a link to it on a server somewhere) I'll be glad to reduce it for you and tell you what I did...

Sorry

A minor thing, Michael. As you can see, one of the moderators moved it.

Check the Image Posting FAQ thread linked in my sig. There's a link in that to another thread on creating your avatar.

You have to downsize the image to the POTN "maxium" -- I believe that was 100 pixels at the widest, but IO gather it can be a jpeg (although a gif is more "traditional").

on flickr it gives you the option to downsize the link to 75x75 on the share links tab. Is that sufficient? or do you have to do it another way.

If you have in flickr an image re-sized to 75 pixels and the file size is less than or equal to 8Kb, you can paste the link to that image in the 'Edit Avatar' dialog using
Option 1 - Enter the URL to the Image on Another Website,
but it is NOT embedded, it is uploaded to POTN server.
All POTN avatars are hosted in POTN server.

If you have an image editing software capable of cropping, resizing, sharpening, the best option for you is to prepare the image in your computer (it must fit an 80x80 pixels box and be smaller than 8kb) and upload it to POTN using the Option 2 of the above mentioned dialog box.
