I purchased a gel sheet kit a few months ago but never used it. How would I go about affixing them to my genesis 200 light? Is there a safe way to cover them over the reflector dish that my light came with? Can I use modeling lamps? Probably not because of the lack of airflow.

Also...how would I best position my background light if using a textured light gray muslin? Should I use a ministand behind the subject and angle it up? Or would higher off the ground and from the side of the key light be better?

I also have similar backgrounds in charcoal gray and cinammin/brown. Would I have favorable results with these color backgrounds?

So what I ended up doing was affixing a clothespin with gaffer tape to the top of my Genesis 200 stock reflector and one I attached a gel sheet I hung over the reflector with another clothespin on the bottom of the sheet to give it some tension so it covered the front of the reflector completely.

I have to say that I was quite pleased with the results. I was shooting with a crinkled light-to-medium gray cheapo muslin I got off Ebay sometime last year. Some observations I made were that the darker colored sheets produced nice deep rich colors, while the more muted colors actually looked quite bad. I ended up shooting mostly deep blues and reds.

1) Is there a certain type of muslin color/texture that works best with gels so that I could make use of every color? I imagine white seemless paper works great but it has no texture.

2) Is there a neater way to do gels other than with sheets for my Genesis 200 lights?

3) I had my background light on a mini-floor stand positioned right behind the subject pointed up at 45 degrees or so. Background was about 4 feet away. What if I used a snoot from the side instead. How would I apply a gel in that case?

4) Are there any neat tricks with gels, for example using two colors?
