Hey everyone, I'm relatively new here and love what I've been reading so far, you all have a nice community. Anyway, here's my issue: I dropped my camera last night, a few times, and while it works just fine still, I lost something very important. I lost that nice little lens cover that says "CANON ZOOM LENS 3.8x IS" on top.

So now my camera looks like this: http://i.imgur.com/nAqjD.jpg (external link)

I'm gonna hold off using it until I clean the lens and get a new cover for it, since dirt can easily get in there. So does anyone know where I can buy that specific part for it? Is that even a removable piece of the camera? Or do I have to send it in to Canon?

Hah... oh man, that's a new one. Never seen someone do that before. Of course, the optimal solution would be to just lightly glue the original back on (assuming it doesn't interfere with the lens covers). However, if you can get a copy of the parts list for the camera from Canon, you can order a replacement part directly from Canon.

Okay, I'll try to do that. Any tips on how to get a copy of it?
Also, I'm pretty sure the part just sort of snaps back in (or a twist to lock thing), but I don't have the part anymore. I didn't notice it fall off so I didn't look for it until this morning, and I had no luck finding it.
Thank you!

Call Canon Parts (assuming you're in the US, that's Canon Parts at (732)521-7230 (Jamesburg, NJ)) and they usually will talk you through finding the right part/assembly. But don't expect them to provide directions on the replacement process.

^^^ That. I've called them several times, and without an actual part number, they did a quick lookup on a lamp tube for my speedlite. It only took them 30 seconds, which is impressive considering how long it took me to find the part in the actual parts manual I had a copy of.

You can also ask them to provide a PDF version of the parts list. They definitely have them available for all lenses and bodies, but they MAY have them for P&S's as well. It can't hurt to ask.

The bad news is that they have a minimum shipping charge of like $7--so it pays to order extra things in one go, like L-paints, spare lamps, etc.

I'll do this right when they open up on Monday, thank you!

A picture of the camera while it's off? I'll do that tomorrow morning (as long as I remember.) I don't have the piece, I didn't realize it had fallen off. It was dark and I really wasn't paying much attention at all.

I'll keep that in mind, thank you. I'll probably end up paying much more for shipping, since I really really need it by this Thursday at the latest... Just goes to show that I need to be more careful with that camera.

Alright, ordered the parts, thank you very much! If I'm lucky they'll get here by Thursday, but if not, at least they'll be waiting for me when I get home after the weekend.

It came to $16.19, and that was after adding $3 for quicker shipping. Much cheaper than I expected.

So, $6 for the part itself?

Fairly close to that, actually. I think it was $7.xx for the parts. (I had to order three: a barrier plate, front cover, and double sided tape in the shape of the lens.) I'll go look for the invoice, and edit this post if I find it.
