$100 or less, and good? Look around CraigsList for a used Manfrotto 055 series, 190 series, or their predecessor 3021 or 3001 models. There are no bargain tripods that are solid.

tripod only or tripod and head?

There's no free lunch here, but if you're sure you only want to spend $100 and can't be convinced to save further, take a look here:

I haven't used it, but if it's anywhere near the quality of their other stuff it should be imprressive for under $100 shipped. I'd strongly strongly recommend getting it with a arca-swiss head though, which would mean this:

with either the horusbennu lx-1t or lx-2t, or better if you can stretch the budget.

I hate to always sound like a horusbennu salesman but when people ask about low budget, it's really one of the best of the budget class, they make good stuff.

found one that will fit my needs just fine, I dont use a tri pod much more than 3 or 4 times a year so I cant really see spending more than a 100 bucks on it at the moment but if I start getting more use out of one I will jump up to a gitzo or manfrotto at somepoint. for the few times a year I go out with a couple buddies and shoot night stuff all I need in a tripod is to hold the camera lol
