i decided to purchase on of these
http://cgi.ebay.com …K:MEWNX:IT#ht_3045wt_1139 (external link)

let me tell you i am kind of impressed with it. great size very decent materials. feels just like some of the "better" more expensive boxes out there. i will be doing a little testing today and hopefully thrown some shots up for measure.

If you can, take a shot of the octabox with the camera directly in front, and reduce the power so you don't get clipping (blown out white) to show the light distribution across the front.

And shots of the grids. Most eBay ones come with junk grids. Then folks don't realize why modifier doesn't work the way it is suppose to. Not saying here is the case but would be nice to show the quality of the grids.

I took it out tonight but didn't have model so it was basically a quick assessment. I will throw some shots up of the front when I can. The grid is just ok, nothing spectacular and I still have to see how it controls spill

Looks like the same design for the Visico set.

I think it is a visico. Is there any reviews on them?

My review:

200mm octa

build quality - Equal to my Chimera boxes
it sets up like any other soft box, but it only has one loop per rod on the end of the box holding the rods in place, so setting up can be a pain with 8 long rods falling all over the place. I just added 8 velcro loops to the opposite end and it now takes no time to set up.

Color coming through the box is horribly magenta and cold..in my case anyway.

So, it is a great piece. better with a little added velcro. Actually useable with some CTO and green gels, and its cheap.

Interesting....

I also noticed a magenta cast with a slight blue in the shadows...

I had made a comparison between it and the PLM.

you can find one over at my post.
Though i get a very even light by using the elinchrom deflector, without that... hm.

I have and use the gridded 150cm/70cm/200cm/35cm x 140cm. Fotodiox/Visico/Flashpoint are all the same items just different names screened on them.

150cm outside Quadra and the last image was a 580exII mounted to the 150cm

They work great for the price and never had any problems with them. I use the bowens quick rings on them now and set up is super fast.

I AM SHOM

Same... its great, but its so Huge!

At the same time putting it away is such a pain i never dissasemble it, so it just eats a big corner of the room....

I have a bowens quick ring i could use on it, but i need a speedring with a extra threaded hole the 200cm breaks the mount off my light without it.

I've been debating about checking out the 150cm ebay octa vs the 47" PCB octa. The quick setup time on the PCB octa is super appealing, but for the price of the softbox and the grid from PCB, you could practically pick up 2 150cm octas.

anyone try both the 47" version and the ebay octa?
