Just noticing an interesting cycle in my photographic journey and wondering if others are seeing same:

Started with film, setting aperture, speed, focus manually. Boy that was dificult! Plodded along though, and then autoexposure modes came to film and that made things easier.

After years of photographic neglect, I purchased a 40D to start shooting again. Started with "auto-everything" modes and eventually start turning things off.

Few years later, still shooting with my 40D, along with a used 5D and finding myself setting aperture and speed manually most of the time, and even manually focusing a lot of the time!

Ironic that what was once complex is now easy, and the electronic "intelligence" that were important in the transition are now not really used at all- well ok, I would be lost without auto-focus shooting soccer and birds!
