Hi,

I'm getting frustrated with printed chart, on screen calibration and what seems like an endless supply of ways to blow my afternoons :)

Basically I have a range of lenses and seem to need to do a little with most of them, as mentioned I've tried loads of methods and frankly they don't seem to work for me and if I go to the suggested distance then even at 50mm an A4 sheet is tiny.

So I started thinking should I just give up on the cheap rubbish and try the LensAlign II?

I've only spotted it here (external link)though and is seems steep - is there anywhere cheap in the UK to get one?

Ta,

John.

Have you tried my free downloadable version? I use my laminated paid version personally for all my own lenses.

There is nothing magic to this really, have a target parallel to your camera's sensor at some distance away, focus on that plane, then have an angled ruler down the side to gauge where your focus plane really lies after the shot, make the adjustment, and try again. Remember that each unit of MA changes your focus distance 1/8th of your DOF.

Aye, that was the one I tried most recently with and is still stood up on the desk behind me.

Thanks for the pointer though.

If you are doing this on a zoom lens, it may not matter what technique you use, a zoom lens may exhibit different MA values depending on focal length, you just have to choose an average value for all FLs, or adjust for the most used FL.

For longer telephotos, I just use my yard for adjustment, I stick a high contrast object into the yard, stand far off, focus on it, then look at the grass to determine adjustment.

This most recent test was on my 15-50mm, at 50mm.

I'm sure for some it works great, just for me I couldn't get it to work - nothing wrong with the chart in the right hands I suspect, mine just aren't those hands so I'm looking to move on and find something that is pre-built so I don't have that issue as well.

Cheers, I'd read that one - for others out there here are some good video tutorials - http://videos.lensalign.com …-User-Guide/6830310_fnpyr (external link)

First time I'd seen someone actually do a test from start to configured!
