Ok took the new Monochrom out this weekend - All in all very impressed by the files coming out of this camera / flickr does not preserve all the detail in these files. To see them on screen is really amazing. This was a very humbling experience. Shooting this weekend made me realize how lazy I've become shooting digital - typically files are very forgiving and you can do a lot in post. The Monochrom demands you expose correctly and really think about what you're doing. I'm not implying that you can't enhance your shots post processing.but from what I can see from my first outing is the best images to be made with this camera are when they are exposed correctly and only lightly touched if at all in post. Looking forward to learning this camera.

Here's a few shots, nothing amazing but had to post something as it's been a while for me.

Rich did you pick up the original MM?

The files are truly amazing. So much stuff in them I don't have in other files. It is truly the only B&W digital I have warmed up to.

I don't shoot the M240 as much as I should. Impulse buy and all that. But when I do I find it is an excellent camera for capturing intimacy with my subjects--not person-to-person--but of personality and environmental influences. I like this, maybe there is a Leitz magic, even with CV lenses. I'd really love to see more from others of their people shots rather than cold views of a distant world.

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

Yes there is something so unobtrusive about a rangefinder.

Something transparent? Both eyes open, still interacting with the subject?

Al of that and you can see things coming in to the frame and moving out. I find it's probably the size also. It's small not over baring like a big DSLR with a large lens can be. I find it easier to get a relaxed and more real image. Nothing quite like it for the streets thats for sure.

I could wish the M was a bit slimmer and easier to hold. I had to add a handgrip, which bulks it up more, a have a secure hold for me.
This is the very first image, my wife across the table, seeing another damned expensive camera in my hands.

Yeah the original MM is a bit smaller then the M 240. The M 240 is still a lot smaller than a big DSLR

Allen no I got the M246. I have some ultra wide angles and use the EVF on the 240 and wanted the same ability with the Mono. You're right, the amount of detail in the files is really something. After seeing the files I shot, I can imagine the detail in your portrait shot above. I really like the full range of tonal values - it's what we worked towards with film.

The shot of your wife is priceless. It must be a universal look, I get it all the time.

have you tried a thumb grip, like a Thumbs Up? I use one on my x100T, and while its a fraction of the weight of my M6, it makes the ergonomics much more stable. I would love one for my M6 but I use a grip as I think the thumb grip would be weird alongside the film advance.

Unfortunately I use that flash shoe for a different purpose
