If I could get something in that region, I'd be happy, and could go a little higher if need be. Time to give eBay some attention over the next week or two.

Sounds like a plan. Good luck. Zeiss is a good option.

If you really want to spend a lot less there is always Jupiter 8. I have one.

I have actually just ordered one of those (Jupiter 8) off eBay to get going with. It has had a CLA and allignment for Leica M and should be fine to get me started with my film camera, which has sadly been sat around while I waited for the cash to come back from the ill-fated Chinese lens. At least I should be able to shoot something soon, and upgrade later.

I think you are going to find it a very interesting lens. There is nothing modern about the way it renders. I have a 1950s single coated version. The build is surely not Leica ha ha but it has a very unique visual signature.

I'm sure I'll have fun shooting with it - having a lens is the main thing for now so that I can use my new camera. Mine is a newer model so perhaps different in terms of that aesthetic, we shall see, but it has been properly calibrated for Leica cameras. I'm mostly excited to be able to put some film through the M4 at last.

I'll look into those Voigtlander f/1.2 or used Zeiss options a bit further down the road.

Mind you, this lens was made up to nineties. It was different lens body and different coatings. This version is very easy to shim for Leica.

Mine has now arrived and is on the M4. I've only been able to do a limited amount of shooting with it, not even a whole roll yet. I do think it will be a stop-gap lens but it's so small that I might keep it if I pick up something bigger and heavier, to have as a lightweight alternative. Considering the price it's hardly worth re-selling.

I will keep mine as well. Unless you are really sold on going wth a Leica 50 Lux or Cron I would recommend giving a hard look at the voigtlander 50 1.2 Nokton.

I've already given it a soft look. In a little while when I can more comfortably say I have the money, I think one will find its way onto the front of my M4. For now I've picked up a leather strap for it, and have just finished up the first roll - soon I'll get to see what my own little Jupiter brings to the table.

The lens seems to do fairly well, at least stopped down, based on the first roll through the camera. Colour and contrast look decent, especially for the price which was peanuts. I still need to work out my digitisation regime (probably buy a scanner) to be able to share things but I'm enjoying using the camera, and not having to use a computer to see the results - for now at least. Looking down and realising I have a Leica hanging on my shoulder hasn't worn off either.

Got another roll to process now - including pictures of a friend's kid playing with her new birthday toys, which was a test for my fledgling rangefinder focussing skills!
