Had to take my new toys out for a twirl out, even if it was just around the neighbourhood (yeah I'm that lazy :p).

All of these are shot with my M8, with only standard sharpening out of LR3.

The first set is with the 35mm f/1.4 Nokton MC. It's no Summilux but it'll have to do for now.

Build quality of the lens seems to me to be rather robust. Focus ring is slightly tight (brand new) and I assume this will loosen up as time goes by. The bokeh is admittedly busy, but I do enjoy funky bokeh from time to time, so it doesn't really bother me that much. There's a certain charm to it. Stopped down the lens is very sharp.

Swirly bokeh:

Second set, taken with the old Leica 90mm f/2.8 Tele-elmarit (Canada version, gotta show my patriotic pride :D).

With the 1.3x crop, it sorta acts like a 135mm (almost) on a FF. I loved the 135L when I tried it on my 5D2 so I think I will really like this focal length.

Wide open it seems like a decent performer, but cannot be compared to more modern Leica glass.

It is a used lens, of course, bought locally. The one thing that strikes me immediately was the low contrast of this lens, which IIRC will go well with B&W. I'll just show you the colour versions because I have to go out soon haha.

Addendum: The swirly bokeh MAY have something to do with the actual background itself, I can't tell. Haha..

Thanks Julian.

Gonna try my hand with the B&W thing. Stick with LR3 or use Silver Efex?

You can use either but, try it with LR first. :)

Yeah! Another Leica shooter! :)

I bought Silver Efex a month ago and have used it twice. I still use a preset I got somewhere called Bill Pierce B&W. Once I run it, I usually brighten up the image quite a bit but it seems to do a nice job. Here are a few I recently used it on

Thanks jetcode! It's been a bit of a revelation for my first week with the M8. Using a RF definitely has a steep learning curve but it has forced me to really go back to the basics. I'm enjoying it a lot.

Love the bocce pic, Geno.

Some of the regulars of PotN might've noticed that I've more or less disappeared 'round these parts for some time... Been totally wrapped up in the Leica world since late 2008 or so. Still have the Canon gear of course, but I hate to say it - its use has been steadily declining.

Anyway, for those interested - I set up a new website for Leica folks... Pop on by, check it out and register if you're game.

I've noticed you've been more active on the Leica forums, it's not a bad thing :) :p

Joined, awaiting approval :)

On a related topic, does anyone have any experience with the ZM 50 1.5 Sonnar? The classic rendering intrigues me.
