You can save your user settings as a profile (or multiple profiles). You can save these profiles to your card prior to a firmware update and reload them once the firmware update is complete to reestablish your settings.

Would it be nice if they asked if you wanted your current settings to be saved to the SD card (or your device if you are updating over the FOTOS app) as a temporary profile? Sure. But they don't. Now you know to do it yourself!

Kirk

The idea that I would have to somehow be active in securing my settings, whether encouraged or not, is downright absurd. I haven't had to do any of that with Canon, Sony or Fuji.

It's just a firmware update. Factory reset should be no one's default assumption.

Yet here I am, with a more expensive camera than any other camera I've ever owned, and this is somehow normal?

I love Leica for what they're good at (good core technology and design). But bad SW execution is not acceptable in my books when you're selling luxury gear.

In their defence I find the Leica Fotos app to be great and pretty much bug free. My Sony app on the other hand is a total pain and had issues previously on Fuji.

But yeah, FW should surely not factory reset, mental decision if that’s the way they have went

The app is good. I'll give them that, for sure. The Fuji app is amateurish at best. Don't remember much of the Sony one.

I contacted Leica US years ago after purchasing a Novoflex dumb adapter for my SL2 to use an R mount perspective correction lens (PC Super Angulon R f/2.8 28mm). When I used the lens, I would go into the Camera Settings menu and manually choose what is now listed as the shortened name "TS 28 f/2.8R 11812" - hilarious side note: I assume the "TS" is supposed to denote "tilt-shift" but there is no actually tilt functionality on the lens - and I would select the listed lens (its full name used to be listed instead of the abbreviated version above). I would shoot with the lens and download the images and there would be no EXIF lens information embedded in the image files. I used to have to batch the raw files with EXIFTool to inject the lens metadata into the files.

I sent an email to Leica and asked if this was a bug and actually got a response from John Kreidler, a product specialist from the east coast of the US Leica contingent. He told me that it was not a bug and that, presumably, the EXIF was only included when the official Leica R adapter was used (I think it cost over $1000 at the time, compared to the $100 Novoflex adapter). I asked him if he could get in touch with his folks as propose to have the EXIF data written regardless of what adapter was being used and, lo and behold!, about a year and a half later, a firmware update included this functionality. Glacial pace, but it worked.

Consider contacting Leica and asking for changes to the firmware update process so that your settings are preserved. See what they say - it must be a simple firmware update, ironically, that would implement the change and I would bet there are a lot of other users that would agree with your request!

Best,

Kirk

My M-E 220 came with last standalone Lightroom version.
I'm holding to this and cameras with DNG files.
All of my storage catalogs and edits starting from 2009 are with LR.
Something around hundred thousands files or so.

Seems like issues keep coming up.

I just realized that the the Q2 no longer connects to Fotos. It finds the camera but just fails to pair. Same issue with two different devices. Tried removing and re-adding the camera in the app but didn't get lucky.

Guess I need to contact Leica. But this just isn't how a company like them should roll out firmware updates. Either that or I keep doing something totally dumb.

UPDATE: Managed to make it work on an iPad. The first two were andoird devices (OnePlus 9 and Galaxy Tab). On the other hand, the M11 connects effortlessly on all devices. So it definitely looks like an issue with the Q2M firmware update and Android.

Nice ride in Vally Forge National Historic Park today, the first sunny day in a while. The mayapples around the area are in full bloom! I love it.

SL2 with the Sigma 85 f/1.4 DG DN.

nice combo. I really like the L alliance idea and not have to stick with the only expensive option. All cameras should have 1 mount :P
