This was a real eye opener for me, because it has been years since I have shot with a Crop sensor body. But After getting my 60D, I took it out for a Photo walk, along with my 5D II. And comparing the pics together, the 5D's were phenomenal. Maybe I got a Bad copy of the 60D and most likely user error, or maybe all my L's did not like to play well with the 60D. I have noticed more detail, contrast, better color reproduction, and sharpness have all been infinity times better than the 60D. Just made realized how spoiled I have been with 21.5 mega pixel, 35mm equivalent full frame luvin goodness.

But then I must reiterate, most likely user error on my part.

I bought a 60D to use as a backup camera to my 5D2 for a trip out west last month. I tried to take the same shot, as close as I could, with each camera. Wanted to be sure I went home with the shot I wanted. Here are a couple from each camera.

As expected the images from the 5D2 are better, I think. But the 60D still does a decent job of it.

It would have been interesting to see the comparison with both cameras using the same lens.

You could check on the picture styles and such on the cameras. If one is set to a Neutral setting or whatnot it could mess with the pictures.

Comparing two different bodies, a different lens on each one makes little sense.

I go farther and insist the same lens, not another copy of the same lens be used.

This would remove any lens variance from the comparison.

Yes I agree I should have changed lenses. These were not taken to compare cameras only to make certain I had a shot. I will at some time do a better test trying to control as many variables as possible. I didn't mean to mislead anyone here. I only wanted to show that the 60D can take acceptable photos.

Do y'all realize that it would be impossible to get the same framing of the image with the same focal length lens on two different format cameras?

Using the focal length on both formats makes a direct comparison of the two cameras virtually impossible. Both cameras should be located in precisely the same spot (keeping the perspective of the scene the same) and the focal lengths should be chosen to provide precisely the same framing. Then, and only then, can the two cameras really be compared to each other.

Of course, the two lenses used should be in the same quality class so that sharpness, contrast, and color are going to be roughly the same.
