On a "routine patrol" of the garden I saw two leaves of the loosestrife pulled suspiciously together. I looked in through a small gap and saw a nursery web spider, Pisaura mirabilis, with an egg ball. I decided to take on the challenge of getting a shot and set up two flash guns off camera, one to each side, shooting in through the leaves. To give some shape to the light I set the 580EXII on the right to fire twice the power of the 430EXII on the left (each mounted on tripods with extension arms - it took some time to set up!), controlled by the STE-2 mounted on my 40D. It was difficult to get the MPE-65 to look in straight through the small gap at the end of the leaves. Finally, as the end result was understandably very green, I selectively adjusted the colour balance of the spider and egg ball to look hopefully a little more natural.
