I still think the 1dmk3 is better than the 40D regarding noise. IQ wise the 1dmk3 seems closer to a 5d IQ than a crop xxd, 7d.

High ISO still isn't something I'd say I'm happy about but its fine for print and websize photo. Even looking at photos in full res on a calibrated monitor an not thrilled with the IQ I get from the 1dmk3. Its still good but not on par with full frame.

Metering is still not that great IMO when it comes to kelvin settings. My 5dmk2 lands the shot in most cases in AWB. I've heard the 1dmk4 is much better in landing kelvin settings AWB. I find more orange skin tones more often in 1dmk3 than any of the camera bodies I owned and used. Just last day I shot a casual family shoot in downtown. One second I have great exposure and turned a differant angle of light and the skin tones were orange!!! This is why i'm not thrilled with the 1dmk3 for portrait sessions.

For my style of shooting ai servo in low contrast may cause me headaches using a 1dmk4. Hunting in low light seems more real than internet rants.

I loved the 1D Mark III when I owned it. It worked well, even up to ISO 6400.

Now I enjoy the 1D Mark IV, even up to ISO 12,800.

My experience is that the IV is at least one stop better than the III at high ISO.

is the top picture taken on a mk3? Did you perform any PP? If no, the picture is beautiful.

1D, 1D2, 1D3, 1DN, 1DIV BETTER BETTER

$ 20 - 30.000 glass ?

Hasselblat full frame ? Mamiya 60 MB sensor ?

just think about what is good enough for you. For holliday snapshot G12 would do great for you because you do not mis a moment because your caddy is tired.

This discussions need a standard to discus quality pictures.

1D3 - 24-70mm 2,8 - 85mm 1.2 - 300mm 2,8 IS wow

I am expecting insurance to let me buy up a 1D4 to replace my stolen 1D3 (I have item replacement on my policy which allows me to purchase a new item to replace my stolen one).

If they do, I will likely sell it and replace it with another 1D3. 1D3 is at the sweet spot between amazing performance and awesome price for me. :-)

Michelle - 7D, 40 STM, 400 f/5.6, 500 f/4.5, NEX, and going Nikon FF - eager to see what 7D2 brings!
