Exactly...I roll my eyes now each time I read it...each message is some variation of this:

"Your camera was inspected and found that the AF was not working correctly. AF adjustments were made, CMOS reset, Firmware updated"

Amazing how each time I sent it in the AF wasn't working so they made adjustments...worthless description IMO.

LOL here is what the NJ SCS said about my 24L the last time I sent it in:

"Your product has been examined and it was found that the adjustment of the part was incorrect causing the focus to operate improperly."

I might take you up on that if it comes down to me being stuck with it. I obviously don't want to stick anyone with a lens as troublesome as this however. I do wonder though if its simply an issue with 7D's as most of the AF complaints I've seen from this lens from from this camera.

I had many issues with certain lenses with my 7D
hit and miss
hit and miss

Try another camera thats not 7D due to its small complex sensor.

I got rid of the 7D and went ff due to the expense of gambling with wanting certain lenses but wasn't sure if they would jive with the 7D...
Renting testing then buying and having a dud thats brand new had me stumped...
Since the 5DMII is back in my life no more issues.

You guys got me thinking I should test mine more. I am pretty blown away by the sharpness of this lens. I actually was planning to sell it because I have a 24-70 and I didn't think a wide 1.4 was needed but I am amazed at the sharp contrasty photos I get. Even wide open.

If it seems to be working fine... you should probably leave well enough alone. The same goes with looking for sensor dust when it's not showing up in your photos (at the aperture you shoot at). Once you open up that can of worms... sometimes it takes hold of you and drives you nuts.

If there are times where you feel focus is seriously off (frequent enough and you're pretty sure it's not user error), then certainly do the tests to help confirm that the equipment is working properly. But when it seems to be working well... best to let it be. ;)

So I tried the lens on a T3i at the store today. From my limited testing it may have been front/backfocusing ever so slightly but it seemed consistent....go figure...so add another wrinkle to the puzzle. I am giving Canon one chance to escalate this with Camera body and lens. It appears the 24mm F1.4L just doesn't always like 7D's...at least now I feel like I can sell it if necessary.

You should try it on a 5d2 as well. This lens really sings on a FF camera. I hope it will work out for you.
Otherwise, keep sending it in and hopefully they either loose it (great suggestion from someone earlier ;D) or get sick of the whole deal and give you a new lens.

Interesting lesson -- if it shows up broken, return it, do not attempt a repair.

Its interesting that it seems all the problems come out of those with 7D's...Canon now has my 7D and 24mm F1.4. A nice Supervisor at Canon "has my back" and will get it escalated for me this time to make sure something happens. I've decided if it comes back in the same condition...no joke I am going Nikon so look for some good deals on the FS forums and feel bad for me!

I am hopeful that they will replace the body/Lens until, for whatever reason, they work together. It seems like the problem DOES NOT lie in the 24mm itself...but the combination of the body and lens.

This also helps if I need to go Nikon, I can sell it for not too much of a loss (the 24mm lens)...just sell it to someone that doesn't have a 7D ;) Since I've seen that it works consistently on a T3i.

Just an update for those still interested. Canon has my lens and body since May 27th(Last Friday) when it was officially "accepted" into their system. No other details to provide. Danny assured me that he'd handle it from the point of acceptance.

Canon better do a bang up job on this lens finally because I've been experimenting with the dark side of the force...

I've tried them all but when testing usually either spot, expanded or single point. The expanded sometimes helped in situations where spot and single point would miss.
