I currently have a 1DIIN which I have been very happy with. I am looking to upgrade to a 1DIV or a 5DII. The more I read the more confused I get. I don't do a lot of sports but I like the faster burst rate of the 1DIV for BIF. I do a lot of landscape and flowers and like the full frame of the 5DII. Can anyone give me opinions and which one they like and why?

Thanks

1D4 is a beast of a camera. Great at high ISO, fantastic frame rate, etc. The 5D2 has amazing IQ but has its weaknesses. You have a bunch of options available to you if you're looking to upgrade. You cannot go wrong with either of the above mentioned bodies.

The 1Ds3 is full frame and has all of the 1 series functionality that you're looking for. Another option is going the 5D2 / 7D route.

If you can afford it, I would go 1D4. I have both and the AI servo is essentially useless on the 5D2. The only time I use the 5D2 is with studio flash, but even then you are limited to 1/200 where the 1D4 will go to 1/250.

I'm lucky enough to have both. The 5D2 is excellent for (near) static subjects, for everything else the 1D4 is the way to go. Be conscious that it's a heavy camera and you need to set it up quite carefully if you want to squeeze everything from it. This article (external link)might help...

Several cameras and more glass than I will admit to.

I have both and if you're still keeping your 1dIIn I'd say the 5D2. If you will only have one camera, 1d4 all the way.

Weddings? I would want full frame for the wide personally. Also the excellent high ISO performance for low lit churches and such. Get the 5D2 and put the saved money not spent on the 1D4 into glass or lighting.

I personally have used both and despite all the features of the 1d4, I still like the 5d2 more. The cost/performance ratio is much better with the 5d, and it is also full frame which I love for the studio/fashion work that I have been doing a lot of recently.

1/200 sync speed doesn't mean much with studio lighting, it only really make a difference if you are shooting outdoors and want to crush the ambient.. which is possible with powerful lights and ND filters.. so I wouldn't consider that a factor.

for BIF the 1d will obviously be better with the crop of it's sensor, 10 fps, and great servo tracking. The 5d would be better for the set up landscape, flower, and other shots.

all in all it comes down to what you value more. IF you want both of those options a 7d and 5d2 would be a great combo, for a lower price than the 1d4 is. Not to mention with the extra money you save, you could buy some nice L glass.

Actually, the 1D4 will go to 1/300, which is significantly hotter for outdoor studio work.

Anyhow, for landscapes, architecture, and indoor portrait work I'd say 5DII. Assuming the money wouldn't be better spent elsewhere (lighting kit, lenses), then 1D4 all the way. Completely different class of camera.

You can't actually set the 1D4 to 1/300 unless you have a canon strobe mounted on top of it. With studio flash the options are 1/250 or 1/320. If anyone knows a way to over-ride this I would be happy to hear it.
