While culling my photos from this weekend I noticed my bride has a long scar under her chin on her neck that is visible in a few shots. Do I approach her and ask her if she wants it edited out or just deliver the photos with it in tact?

I do not edit out scars, only pimples...anything that's permanent - stays.

I would ask about making it less obvious but only edit based on her specific request.

I don't shoot weddings, don't even shoot for profit. That said, I would ask, she is well aware that is there and I think she should have the choice. She may or may not appreciate it, I would suspect she would though.

I would tone it down but not eliminate it entirely.

(In other words, retouch, set the opacity on the adjustment layers for it low enough that it just barely comes back)

I wouldn't ask. There's no way a reasonable person could expect someone to take something permanent out without them telling the photographer. But there is a chance a person could be offended by being asked "do you want this part of you taken out?"

If she wants it out, she'll tell you.

This is the way I was leaning, I might soften it a bit in the one shot where it's really visible.

We had a pre-wedding meeting and she didn't bring it up so she probably doesn't care.

I think you nailed it Sam. I can not image a bride saying my scar is not showing dark enough. People will not complain about you making them look better. Reduction and not elimination is the way to go.

Have you seen the OVERBOARD skin softening going around.!!!!!

Here's the angle in question, I'll have about 7 of this similar shot in her package:

I think it's a beautiful shot and the expression is so much more noticeable and dominant than the scar. I would not edit unless she asks you too. Great capture.

I had to look at a larger image than this to see what you meant. Even at the larger size on your flickr, it's not what I noticed at first.
I think everyone said it before...if she didn't specifically ask for you to "change her" then don't.

Also, lovely photo. The fun and the joy in the photo shows much more clearly than the scar.

Are you sure that it is a scar and she does not have a prominent clavicle?

Positive, my wife who knows her said it's from a car crash when she was a teen and I have other pics where it's more prominent.

I'll just soften it a hair and call it a day. She'll have the digital files and if she wants me to re-edit I will.

Nup...I'd leave it.
I've got burn scars on my face, neck and hands and they are part of who I am.
There is nothing I can do to change that. I don't necessarily like them, but after 28 years have learnt to live with them.
If anyone even attempted to edit them out or try to cover them up with any form of pp, they would be told in no uncertain terms that I was not happy about it.
Remove a zit, sure no probs, but if it's a permanent mark like a scar, just removing it out of the photo isn't going change it on the person.

I don't remove anything that is permanent.
