Looking to get a grip for a 5d mark II. Not sure if i want to go OEM yet, just wanted some advice on the best third party grip out there. Looking for something that resembles the Canon OEM grip in terms of texture and color. Also do you guys think this is legit?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

may be sketchy...I personally wouldnt mess with it. I just recently bought a Canon grip for my 5D2 off of ebay and turned out it was a replica and its somewhat of a common scam going on ebay. If the price looks too good to be true, it probably is. You can check out the thread I posted about it.

But I just bought the zeikos grip and I loooove it. Everything works perfectly and it feels nice. It is different from the 5d2 body material but to me its not a big enough difference to justify the huge price difference from the Canon version. If your grip absolutely must feel the same and be as rugged as the 5D2 body, then you should probably get the Canon one.

I am sure others will chime in about their favorites, and most likely if they really like them they are probably pretty good.
I will agree with Dizzy in stating I also really like the Zeikos grip I have on both of my cameras.

just a few of my thoughts...

Just get the genuine BG-E6 it has a magnesium chassis that matches the camera body and makes the grip more rigid than the third party grips.

agreed.. no sense on spending $2,000 on a Camera to save $100.00 on a grip for it..

go for the OEM..

You could save a little by going used on the OEM grip. You'll see them on here on a fairly regular basis.

the price margin is pretty big. Around 250 to 60 bucks. Rather just go third party and save. Can anyone chime in on other third party brands?

I have never felt or seen a third party grip that felt or was build as good as the comparable canon one.

On top of that, come on, you spend what? $2500 on the body and you wanna go cheap and skimp on the grip? Get the $250 grip. Its not that much and its worth it.

Enjoy :)

I had a Phottix on a 40D, Canon one on a 5D. When I got the 5D2 I got another Phottix and the same for the 7D. I see no advantage to a Canon grip in actual use. Nada.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

If money is real tight why bother with a grip? It is a nice to have but not really necessary.

For longer battery life just put a spare battery in your pocket. If you aren't shooting professionally its unlikely that you will have real issues using the normal shutter release.

LIke a couple of other posters, I can't see the point in having one of the best bodies available and then bolting cheap bits onto it. I agree the Canon is very expensive for what it is but it is very very well built

Very lucky to have a lot of nice toys :)
