After years of avoiding video like the plague, I have finally decided to start experimenting. I have a Canon 7D and have recorded a couple of short videos.

What video editing software would you recommend for a beginner with a 7D? I don't need a lot of features at this point. Low price and ease of use are the main priorities.

Thanks in advance!!

Mike

Good question - depends how beginner you are and where you want to get to?

My Father is 90 - he loves the uLead studio - very beginner.

Avid Studio - not bad.

Sony Vegas - different flavors to suit various skill levels - some still complain learning curve is steep.

If you want to go pro in the long term 1. Avid Media Composer or 2. Final Cut Pro.

With kind regards

Yeah, if your in for it for the long term, Avid and Final cut is the way to go.

I am actually a huge fan of adobe and what can be done with Premiere/After Effects, but Final Cut much more friendly in a video production environment because of the templating you can do with motion (not saying you cant with AE... but its more tricky as you can't create a preset).

I personally recommend final cut if your starting out. But honestly, wait a little bit, Final Cut X is around the corner here any minute and it basically fixed a good chunk of Final Cut Pro that I HATE to work with... And I work with it every day.

I'm just an amateur sticking my toe into the video stream for the first time, so the more expensive professional grade software is overkill for my needs.

The Ulead product looks good. I see the company is owned by Corel now. Think I'll download the trial version and give it a try. If I like it the price is only $40 and their pro version is available for $80.

Thanks for the advice!

Mike

Take a look at Premiere Elements 9.

Good luck.

I second iMovie. Very user friendly.
