Well, how "low-light" is low-light for you?

I typically shoot @ f/1.4, 1/125s-1/200s, iso1600 environment. I've shot a good portion of silly static stuff at 1/50s, 1.4, iso3200-6400 as well and haven't noticed anything that made me wonder if the lens was malfunctioning.

I've done a few 1/5s, 1.4, iso6400 of my son sleeping in his crib but AF doesn't work in those conditions. I'd use Live View for those moments.

Yeah nothing near that low of low light...it was moreso low contrast than anything else. My problem is that the lens wouldn't just miss by a bit or "search" it would act like it had no problem but be off by a foot or two or so at a 2 meter distance.

It is quite possible that I'm the only one (posting on POTN) that has the 7D/24Lii combo working well.

*knocks on wood*

You are not the only one. My 7D/24LII combo works great. For one bad experience, there may be 10 great experiences that are not heard of. The squeaky wheel gets the grease...
If a majority of 24LII's experienced the same problem as SDiver, it would not be as highly regarded as it is. Again, I am very sorry to hear that his experience was this crappy, there is no doubt about that. I would be just as frustrated. What seems more problematic is Canon service not being able to get it right or willing to work with him. However, his experience is not indicative of the performance of the 24LII as a whole, there are plenty of testimonies to back that up.

To the OP: I love my 24LII on the 7D. I sold the 35L for the 24LII. Of course that is just my preference and mine alone. Since you did have the 30mm and want something a bit wider, I think you will be very happy. Images are sharp wide open, with great color/contrast, and the MKII is partially weather sealed.

Yep, that would be tremendously frustrating if I had to go through what you've been through. I know someone else was having issues with his 24Lii, and he was overseas and the problem happened with all his camera bodies (primarily a 1DsIII IIRC). Sucks when it happens. :(

Yeah and here I thought it was just my lens until I tested it on a T3i in store and it seemed ok...didn't have any obvious horrible misses like I was able to do easily with my 7D.

OP, I highly recommend the 24mm F1.4L II when it works well. It is sharp wide open, moreso than even the 35L in my experience and it keeps more of the purple fringing at bay. I also sold my 35L to get a classic 35mm lens on my 7D. Much easier to "walk around" with than a 30-35mm lens which equates to a 50mm or so equivalent. Just heed my thread and don't send it into Canon if you get it and it doesn't work...send it back to the store.
