The link sums up most of the details thus far, it seems that Nikon dislikes Sigma's own brand of image stabilization and is moving to sue the company over their use of it.

Nikon might have come out with it in a compact before, but I'm guessing that was sensor shift? Which should be completely different to in-lens stabilisation, but then I'm no engineer so I might be completely wrong. -Tom
