There hasn't been a decision yet, so saying Sigma has infringed copyright is plain speculation, and Sigma refused settlement, so that means they believe that they didn't do anything wrong, or that they have a good chance of winning. If they knew they were infringing, they would have settled. Why? Because they know the judge ain't stupid, and it makes no sense to waste the court's time, and lawyers fees trying to argue something they know they'll lose.
IMO Nikon is suing Sigma just because Sigma's OS is similar to Nikon's VR, and Nikon have decided that they need the extra money.
Following your line of reasoning, Canon should be able to sue Nikon then, shouldn't they? After all, Canon came out with the first IS lens before Nikon came out with their first VR lens, so Canon must have "ever" right to sue Nikon!

Why would Sigma definitely work on Nikons? Nikon is just suing for copyright infringement, that doesn't mean Sigma has to make their lenses according to Nikon's specs in the future, and in fact, they may just end up dropping OS for Nikon mount lenses altogether if things go badly for them, which means that sticking with Canon would be the smart thing to do in that scenario...

Nikon isn't in debt....

I love people instantly siding with Sigma. You guys have NO idea whether Sigma is guilty or not yet you are already claiming that Nikon are just being patent trolls. If they brought this up I'm sure they have a case. If Sigma did steal IP from Nikon they should pay. If they didn't then shame on Nikon. But there must be some level of similarity to have Nikon sue Sigma and not Tamron/Canon ETC.

Switching brands will absolutely make anyone a better photographer. ;)

Honestly, unless you go for the cream of the crop gear from either camp, you aren't going to see much improvement as far as gear is concerned.

It's over the VR thing..

Sigma tried to use it. Nikon had a copyright...And well I don't see any problem with them sueing someone over copyright infringement....

Ummm... the lawsuit is over patent infringement, not copyright.

Again people I never said my photography wasn't good....
No one did to be honest.

I never wanted to switch in order to make myself a better photog either.....

I, personally, have never had any trouble with any of my canon gear.

Then why do u want to switch?!

tkbslc wrote in post #12476909 (external link)
-Switching brands won't make you a better photographer
-You already own decent Canon gear
-You already know how to use Canon gear.
That said, Nikon makes great stuff. So do all the other major brands. There is no real overwhelming reason to use one brand over another.

Yes, true.

When I got my canon rebel xti I shot horse shows. Now I mostly shoot senior photos, family portraits, and some landscapes in my free time.

Those 3 things ur XTI will shoot just fine. What do u think u need to upgrade for? More pixels? 10 megapixels were print very big if your technique and photo knowledge and composition skills are good.

Why? Kinda a sideways move stayin' at 10 megapixels. All u really will get is more fps (not needed for portraits or landscapes, and a camera body with more controls. I would save ur money and look for lenses instead.
