This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new editing tricks.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I have posted a picture, re-sized to exactly 1024 pixels maximum on the long side. Otherwise, this photo was taken from the camera as is and unedited by myself.

The game will last 4 Days (96 hrs) and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at. I'll show you what I did personally to this photo at the close of the contest.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read "Before & After #365."

Game ends Saturday May 28, 2011 @ 7:30pm CST

how about a little photo restoration of something a little over 30 years old ;)

yep, I'm the baby. I restored it to color for my Mom on Mothers day. Turned out & printed out Great ;) I'll show mine once this is over.

oops, I just realized I put up one of my 'layer edits' along the way to my finished product... not the 'raw' scan... I'll post that one up in a sec.

*fixed* ;)

Did not do much. Cloned out some (I think dust) spots from the print and some of the items sticking out of your head. Also removed some items that seemed to distract my eye. Cropped to remove seat belt.

Finished it off by putting it into a format that was used - big print with 4 smaller ones. Big set for Mum and Dad, and small ones for lesser relatives !!

.......... aaaaaarrrrgggghhhhhh ......... just seen I have cropped your head. I did not save my work either !! Please forgive me Lore.

I couldn't get it to colorize any way that I liked it so...
took out some of the red, B&W conversion to make it "newspapery" added text and boarder, yellow/brown overlay

PS CS5: Match colour (neutralize), 5% each on shadows & highlights, unsharp mask 10%, 100 pix. That's all, other than erasing a few obvious dots.

Photoshop CS4 : The first thing I did was adjust the color balance by lowering the red to an acceptable level to me. Then I adjusted the levels making the darker darker by about 20 points. Used the unsharpen mask 60, 3.1, 1. Used surface blur 3, 7 to remove some of the pixels that changing the levels created. Cloned out some dust and a few things in the background that drew attention from the subject. Toggled exposure, contrast and gamma correction to make it look somewhat better in my opinion, and finished up with a little vibrance enhancement.

oh this was fun! :)

The Laird - nice cloning, that's ok about the head chopping ;), I like the way its presented, color wise its not far off from the color faded original.

T3 Heavy Shop - LOL! Fantastic! All the baby wanted was the camera ;) I love this.

sparkin - finally a color one :D very nice! warm it up just a tad & I think it would have been perfect! It's a tad on the cool/blue side.

Frame-it - welcome! (I don't believe I've seen you play before) other than the shirt getting a little blown out it 'appears' to me that the colors are spot on.

Well Done everyone! I had alot of fun on this one! This round goes to Frame-it take it away.

Oh & here is how I did my edit & had printed it up for my Mom. (its one of the few pics I could find of my mom & I)

Nice job Frame-it.

Lore, glad you enjoyed that :). My first attempt to age an aged photo  without using presets.

Thank you! You are correct, this was my first time participating in any of these kind of posts. It was fun and can't wait to do more!!!

The picture I am submitting doesn't have much to work with but lets see what we can do with it. Lots of opportunities to use many different tools in Photoshop.

If you accept this mission you have 4 days. Good luck and may photoshop be your friend. :D

Frame-It: It's normal practice to start a new thread for each round. See first post for details.
