I have a 430 ex ii and I would like to pair it with another light source. I have reflectors and such, but want something as a backlight thats not too expensive. Also wondering if I could use my 430 ex wirelessly as a master to the other strobes. under $200 would be great, under 150 would be ideal.

AFAIK, the only Canon EX range flash to have master capabilities is the 580EX (II).

550EX will also work as master.

YN-560 are $60ish and would trigger optically, though they don't do ETTL.

Look into radio triggers. YN or Cactus or PW, etc.

If you have a 60D, 7D, or T3i, you can fire the 430EX wirelessly using ETTL from the camera's pop-up flash. Otherwise you need the 530, 580, or the ST-E2.

yes I have a radio trigger already, if I were to buy another flash, would I be able to set my 430ex as a slave as well as the others and have them all fire?

Which radio triggers?

Transmitter on the camera. Each flash on a receiver. So that's a total of 3 units (more for any added flash). Set all at the same channel and each flash should fire simultaneously.

The 430ex only slaves using the canon wireless system, so you would need a receiver to match your trigger.
