Did this the other day. Drove 40 miles with my 500 mm in tow (traveled light), and didn't have my flash card in the camera, and no bag with my spare. The main card was in the card reader connected to the computer. Anybody got any ideas for a foolproof way of making sure that you will have a memory card with you when you leave the house, wherein you aren't actually thinking about whether you have one or not, but behold, you always have one at the ready? Figured I'd stick a spare in the car, but are there any other foolproof ideas? Should I cram one in my nostril and leave it there?

Just one of those things, or similar, that we've all done at some point. Whether it be forgetting a card, charged battery, forgetting to dial back 3200 iso from the last shoot, or zeroing EC. Just need to make a mental checklist for the basics. Do I have everything I need in order to shoot? Are my camera settings reasonable?

You could sew one of those little CF wallets to your neckstrap. :D

make a checklist and save it on your smart phone or diary or write on a paper and post it on the wall. run thru the list before any shoot then you can save more time. it takes less than 60 secs..=D

I've been there and done that... I've also gone out to my favorite nature shooting area and discovered that I left the battery at home on the charger.

Whenever I got out to shoot now, I always take my camera bag. That way I have spare cards and batteries at my finger tips...

This requires that I remember to check a checklist ...... gotta be foolproof. On a more serious note (sorta) - I had a heart attack 6 years ago, and in the process of this wonderful event, I lost some connections in the noggin. That loss comes in the name of short term memory, I can go to my vehicle to get something out of it for instance, and in the process of walking to it, forget what I went there for. Doesn't happen all the time, but there it is.

I think I'll just get more cards, one in the vehicle, one one the keychain, and one in my left nostril.;)

I use 4GB cards, and I try to buy them when on sale. I have 2 bags, so I make sure that I have 2 each in each bag, and I also stash one in my center console of my car, just in case.
