So, I was going through my closet today looking for some random stuff and found this lens. It is a Sigma APO 400mm f/5.6.

I am not quite sure where it came from, I would assume it was an ebay acquisition from back in 2003 when I first switched over to Canon.

I tossed on my 5d2 and snapped some shots. It seemed to work ok although autofocus is pretty slow.

Here is a shot I took handheld at 1/100.

Obviously, I grabbed the first object in sight. Excuse the mess.

This is what it looks like:

Has anyone seen one of these before? I don't need it but is it worth enough to be worth the trouble of selling it?

Actually it is supposed to be a pretty good lens although usually there is a compatability problem in that you can only shoot it wide open. Could you step it down on your 5d?

I was working with such low light that I had not tried stopping it down. I will take it outside this weekend and see what happens when it is stopped down.

I had an old sigma 70-210 f2.8 that wouldn't stop down, it was only good wide open, i put it on my film rebel and it worked in all apetures...the guy at the local camera store said it was normal to only be wide open on digital bodies

I found the skeletal remains of a lens in my closet once.
